Our Mission Statement

PS 59’s mission is to nurture a culture of belonging where all children and adults feel safe, cared for, and affirmed in developing a strong sense of identity and a belief in themselves and each other.  We embrace all that makes each of us unique and all that we have in common.  We prioritize equity across race, gender, ethnicity and life experience.

We believe that relationships among students, staff and families are essential to this mission and that our success relies on open and honest communication and mutual respect.

We are inspired by the remarkable strengths and talents of the young people and families we welcome each year and all they have to offer our community.  They remind us daily that learning is a joyful, vibrant, lifelong pursuit that benefits from collaboration, inquiry, and reflection across all academic, social-emotional and artistic experiences.

We encourage every member of our diverse community, students, faculty, and families, to see themselves as agents of change who advocate through words and actions for a more just, inclusive, anti-racist, and equitable society, and who recognize our shared responsibility for creating change.

Respect For All

Respect for All (RFA) is the new New York Public Schools system-wide response to bullying and harassment. As a part of the NYC Department of Education, we at PS 59 Beekman Hill International School are committed to keeping our school safe, supportive, and free from discrimination.

During Respect for All Week, hosted this year between February 12th - 16th, PS 59 highlighted ongoing programs to help our community gain a better understanding of diversity in our city and around the world.
